Power & Leisure Batteries

The power to live in luxury on the road

Flame Conversions install a range of power systems to run appliances and entertainment units in your camper. To improve functionality, we up-rate the cable size and install an appropriate split charger (when necessary) to improve the charge rate of your batteries. Leisure batteries can hold sufficient charge for days, even when the camper has been stationary.

Solar Panels

Solar energy is collected through the solar panel and through to the solar controller. The solar controller converts the energy into usable power for the batteries to store ready for use. Semi-flex solar panels aren’t visible from ground level, they are lightweight and discrete. Solar panels do not need full sun to create energy, normal day light still generates energy. The solar panel is fixed to position using Polyurethane adhesives. A hole is drilled for the wire to go through the roof into the solar controller for conversion. The hole is cleaned of any metal debris and a water tight box is fitted and bonded over point of entry.

Leisure Batteries

A lead is connected to the positive port on your starter battery and connected to a fuse box. The cable is run through the fire wall out through the lower part of your dashboard and we hide the wires under the passenger flooring, the VSR or B2B is wired in roughly in the middle of the circuit between the 2 batteries so it can moderate the charge sequence. The battery and split charger are grounded to the vehicle. We install leisure batteries either under your passenger or in a cupboard.

Battery Charging Systems

Battery to Battery (B2B)

Used on newer models of Camper with the eco start/stop alternator. This charge unit takes power directly from the alternator through to the power distribution unit and leisure battery, it charges the leisure battery at a higher voltage than the starter battery to enable efficient charging. When the battery is charged it drops into an ambient state which conserves the energy rather than trying to force more charge into the battery.

Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR)

This split charger unit detects the voltage of the starter battery and the leisure battery, if the starter battery is below its ideal level of charge the VSR will prioritise the charge to the main starter battery. When the camper is running, both batteries receive the same voltage from the alternator which is distributed via the VSR. When the vehicle is switched off, the VSR closes its connection between both batteries allowing you to use your leisure battery without it affecting your starter battery.
